What data does an insurance agency already generate for AI training?
Last updated /Seller intent
An insurance agency already records a series of choices that are not the policy itself. A risk is described in the agency's words. Markets are approached or skipped. A quote is presented, declined, or bound. A renewal is reviewed against a change the insured mentioned. A claim is handed to the carrier with a note about what the agency already knows. That series is the agency's work. The application, the loss run, the medical supplement, and the draft authorization are the insured's file and often the carrier's file too. The agency hosts them. Hosting is not a license to turn them into training material.
An illustration, not an agency on our books: a producer declines to remarket a renewal because last year's carrier still fits and a cheaper quote would drop a coverage the insured used. The note says which coverage and that the insured agreed to stay. The lesson is the refusal to chase a lower premium. The dec page, the loss history, and the bank draft add the insured's life and none of the lesson. If the note only makes sense with the loss run attached, keep both inside the agency.
Workflow shape in general is how workflow and process records can be licensed. A firm that handles other people's financial records under a different duty is what an accounting firm already generates that can train AI. A store that sells the vehicle the policy covers is what a dealership already generates that can train AI. Why a commercially interesting file can still be unavailable is why legality is not a yes for every company. The permission itself is what AI data licensing means for a company.
Why the quote that was not sold can teach
Bound policies are the scoreboard. The quote that was walked away from, with a reason, shows how an agency judges fit. Agents that only see bound business learn to sound like a brochure. They do not learn the coverage the producer refused to strip. Carrier rate filings on the open web do not contain that refusal. The agency management system might, next to an application that should stay there.
Claim handoff is a second craft. What the agency gathered before the carrier took the file, which question was asked, and whether the insured was told the agency is not the adjuster. That handoff is a workflow. The claim narrative with medical detail or a third party's statement is a different record, often governed by the carrier and by duties the agency cannot waive.
What an agency can describe
- Quoting paths: markets considered, a recommendation, and whether the insured bound, declined, or went silent. The path in the agency's words.
- Renewal reviews that record a change in exposure and the advice given, without the application packet.
- Handoff notes that show what the agency did before a claim left, and the outcome the agency is allowed to know.
- Playbooks the agency wrote for its own producers: when to remarket, when to walk away, how a surplus line is explained.
Files that stay with the insured or the carrier
- Applications, loss runs, medical information, and beneficiary or payment instructions.
- Carrier portals and rating outputs the appointment agreement says the agency may use and not republish.
- Anything a privacy notice described as collected to place coverage, if that notice did not describe a later training use. The notice is not rewritten by a glossary.
What makes an agency database look licensed when it is not
- Counting policies in force as a dataset. Those are placements, not a record of judgment.
- Exporting the management system because it is one button. The button mixes advice with applications.
- Call recordings of quoting conversations with no account of what the person was told about recording. Notice is unsolved until someone qualified reads the practice.
- A belief that independent-agency status means the data is the agency's alone. Carriers, insureds, and wholesalers may all have a claim on pieces of the file.
How an agency would be described
Unlockt, LLC is the operator behind Big Data/Little Guy. We will not take a management-system export or a carrier login. The free check asks whether quoting notes and renewal reviews exist apart from applications. It is a form that does not collect an insured's file.
A profile would name those notes and the wall around applications in the same sentence. Buyers would see the sentence, not the dec pages. If the advice cannot be lifted off the application, say so and stop. A brokerage that negotiates buildings rather than policies should not be folded into this description. That trade is what a brokerage already generates that can train AI.
Questions people ask
Can an agency license applications and loss runs?
Do not treat them as the product. They are the insured's and often the carrier's. The agency's quoting and renewal judgment is a separate question this page cannot clear.
Are declined quotes useful?
They can be, when the reason is recorded and can be read without the application. A declined flag with no reason is a status, not a lesson.
What about recorded quote calls?
Notice and purpose come first. A recording made to place coverage is not automatically available for a model. Ask counsel about the practice you used.
Does the carrier appointment let us share rating data?
Often it restricts that data. A login is not a sublicense. Read the appointment. This page will not interpret it for you.
Is the renewal sketch a real account?
No. It shows the difference between advice and an application. It is not a policyholder.
How do we start?
Describe how a quote is recommended or refused, without an insured's details. Leave the management system closed.
